The ‘Nandita Das’ directed ‘Manto’ released last Friday in India. The movie is not only worth watching but it’s also worth remembering.

The movie is based on the life of Pakistani writer ‘Saadat Hasan Manto’ who was always in controversies due to his stories during the period 1946-50.
So coming back to the stories, here are the 3 best short stories of ‘Manto’ you need to read now:
3: ‘THANDA GOSHT’ :

A short story which exposes, how people go mad during the riots. The story revolves around a Sikh man who was a participant in the Hindu-Muslim riots. Read the story to find out more.
2: ‘TOBA TEK SINGH’ :

An interesting story to read, it is set during the India-Pakistan partition and it is decided that the lunatics in the mental asylums present in both India & Pakistan are also to be exchanged same as the civilians were.
3: ‘KHOL DO’ :

And at the end, my personal favorite and really a dark themed story ‘Khol Do’. The story opens up during the Hindu-Muslim riots and how a father struggles to find out his missing daughter. Really the best short story I’ve ever read.
These 3 stories were originally written in Urdu but you will find it’s translated version over the Web. So read these great stories by MANTO.
